Designed to be played in person with a single mobile phone passed from friend to friend, it requires zero paper, pen, or complicated setup.
Step-by-Step Rules
- Configure your squad: Choose between 3 to 10 players and select 1 or 2 imposters. Pick a category like Food, Animals, Places, Objects, or Activities (or leave it on "All" for complete mystery).
- Pass and play: Tap Start New Round. Pass the device to Player 1. They tap the screen to view their secret word, memorize it, tap Got it to hide it, and hand the phone to the next player.
- Twin words assigned: Most players (Civilians) receive the exact same word (e.g. "Pizza"). One or two players (the Imposter) receive a closely related twin word (e.g. "Flatbread"). Neither side knows who is who!
- Give one-word clues: Go clockwise around your circle. Each player says exactly one single word that describes their secret word without saying the word itself.
- Debate and eliminate: After one or two clue rounds, start the discussion timer. Players debate whose clues sounded slightly off-target. Point fingers and vote together on who the imposter is.
- Unmask the spy: Tap Reveal Imposter & Words to discover if the civilians successfully unmasked the spy, or if the imposter fooled everyone!
Strategy Tips for Civilians
- Don't be too obvious: If your word is "Coffee", saying "Beans" or "Caffeine" immediately alerts the imposter (who might have "Tea") that their word doesn't fit, letting them change strategies.
- Don't be too obscure: If you say a clue that no one understands, your fellow civilians might mistake you for the imposter and vote you out!
- Watch facial reactions: When a player hears a clue that contradicts their expectation of the word, they often hesitate, frown, or take longer to respond.
Strategy Tips for the Imposter
- Blend in quickly: Listen carefully to the clues given before you. If you realize your clues might differ, pick adaptable words that could apply to both concepts (e.g. for "Flatbread" vs "Pizza", a clue like "Baked" or "Crust" fits both!).
- Play with confidence: Hesitation is the biggest tell. Deliver your one-word clue smoothly without second-guessing.
- Direct suspicion elsewhere: If another civilian gave a weird clue, bring attention to it during the discussion phase!
